The MSR Lightning 5" flotation tails are modular tails that work with the MSR Lightning snowshoes series that includes the Lightning Ascent, Lightning Axis and Lightning Flash snowshoe models. They simply attach to the rear of each snowshoe deck to provide additional traction and extra flotation in deep snow and/or when carrying a heavy gear pack etc.
The MSR Lightning Tails are easy to stow away and bring along on any snowshoe trip. Allows you to take advantage of the agility and maneuverability of a smaller, primary snowshoe in normal, packed snow conditions, however by quickly attaching the tails you gain 5 additional inches of flotation for deeper snow, or when carrying heavier packs.
